Trivial Tasks
There are many tasks which are so trivial that they never require a dice roll. As a general rule, if it seems like something that someone with no special training could easily do, it is a trivial task. Examples: Opening an unlocked door, opening a locked door with a key, picking up a small item, brushing your teeth, starting a car, pressing a button, pulling a lever, etc.
Trivial Tests
Some tasks aren’t trivial for the general population. They would require a roll for anyone without a high degree of competence in the task. We encourage gamemasters to discern when a test is trivial for any given character in their game. This goes for both player characters and non-player characters. Bear in mind that a test may be trivial for a character with a very high dicepool, but it may not be trivial for a character with a very low dicepool. This applies to all parts of this system; combat, medicine, social, etc.
In cases where you determine that a roll is trivial, you should ask the player to simply describe how their character goes about succeeding.
Trivial Combat
Engaging the combat rules part of this system isn’t always necessary. Sometimes one side is so outmatched that there can only be 1 outcome.
It can be fun to give your players some mooks to bash up every now and then. Allowing players to show off their cool combat powers can be good fun for everyone.
A combat encounter may become trivial after a few characters have acted. Don’t feel like you have to play out the rest of a trivial combat encounter when it is already clear who has won. See: surrender.
